Rimsulfuron is an acetolactate synthase (ALS) inhibitor. It inhibits the synthesis of acetolactate in plants. This action blocks the biosynthesis of branched-chain amino acids. As a result, cell division is suppressed. Sensitive grassy and broadleaf weeds stop growing, which eventually leads to chlorosis, necrosis, and death of the entire plant. Farmers primarily use it to control annual and perennial grassy and broadleaf weeds in corn fields. They can also apply it to potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, and certain vegetables and fruits. Rimsulfuron is one of the few sulfonylurea herbicides that can be used on vegetables and fruits such as grapes, apples, pears, hawthorn, and loquats.
